About Spain Cave Explorer
Dedicated to helping travelers discover the extraordinary underground landscapes of Spain since 2019.
Our Mission
Spain Cave Explorer was founded with a simple purpose: to create the most comprehensive, accurate, and practical English-language resource for anyone interested in visiting caves and grottoes in Spain. We noticed that while Spain is one of Europe's richest destinations for underground tourism, detailed visitor information in English was scattered across dozens of local tourism websites, often outdated, and sometimes contradictory.
Our team personally visits each cave we write about. We verify opening hours, ticket prices, and accessibility details on the ground. We research the geological and historical background from academic sources. And we combine all of this into clear, well-structured guides that help travelers plan meaningful visits.
We believe that caves are not just tourist attractions but windows into our planet's deep history and humanity's earliest creative expressions. By making these sites more accessible to international visitors, we hope to contribute to both cultural tourism in Spain and the broader appreciation of our shared geological and archaeological heritage.
Our Values
Accuracy
Every fact, figure, and recommendation on our site is verified through firsthand visits and cross-referenced with official sources. We update our guides regularly to reflect changes in hours, pricing, and access conditions.
Conservation
We promote responsible cave tourism. Our guides include reminders about respecting cave environments, following marked paths, and supporting conservation efforts. Caves are fragile ecosystems that deserve our protection.
Accessibility
We provide honest information about physical accessibility at each site. Not all caves are suitable for all visitors, and we believe clear, upfront communication helps people make informed decisions about their travel plans.
Independence
Our content is editorially independent. We are not sponsored by or affiliated with any specific cave, tourism board, or travel company. This independence allows us to provide honest assessments and comparisons.
Our Editorial Approach
Our small editorial team is based in Madrid and includes contributors with backgrounds in geology, archaeology, travel writing, and web development. Several team members are active members of the Spanish Speleological Federation and participate in cave survey and conservation projects across the country.
We welcome feedback, corrections, and suggestions from our readers. If you have visited a cave we cover and noticed any inaccuracies, or if you would like to suggest a cave for future coverage, please reach out through our contact page.
